KvK Explained: What Each Season Is, What Actually Triggers the Next One, and What To Prepare

Most KvK confusion comes from one wrong assumption: that seasons run on a calendar. They don't. Seasons are gated by named story chapters, not by dates. Once you know that, the whole structure becomes predictable and most of the bad advice on this topic becomes obviously wrong.

1. Season vs KvK — two different things, constantly conflated

TermWhat it is
SeasonThe long account-state period — Nascent, Prep, S1, S2, S3, Season of Expedition, Season of Conquest
KvKThe active Lost Kingdom war window inside a season — the LK opens, runs for weeks, settles, closes

So "KvK1" is the war phase of Season 1. Each later season has its own KvK. When someone says "we're in KvK," ask which — they may mean the season or the war window, and the answer changes what you should be doing this week.

2. The ladder

SeasonLost Kingdom storyWhat gates entry
Nascent—Brand-new kingdom. Onboarding, Tavern chests, first builds. No LK
Preparation Season—Prep-exclusive events, power build-up, CH and feature unlocks. No PvP LK yet
Season 1Endless WarAny kingdom in the region completes the chapter "The Last Golden Apple" (control Lost Temple) — region-wide
Season 2Distant JourneyNamed Chronicle gate. Matchups re-roll — new opponents
Season 3Light and Darkness or King of All Britain (a story choice)Named Chronicle gate
Season of ExpeditionThree SoC stories, played in order — sequential, no story selectionNew rung, live-confirmed 2026-09-04 in the seven-tier Kingdom Progress tooltip. Enters after LK Season 3; sits between S3 and SoC
Season of ConquestNamed stories — selective registration among LK stories, then a matchmaking phaseRecurring endgame seasons, now entered from the end of Season of Expedition. Autarch/Testimony and Iconic equipment enter here

This ladder is stated verbatim in the client — it was read straight off the Kingdom Info tooltip, not inferred.

3. ⚠️ What nobody can tell you — including us

There is no published day count for how long Nascent lasts.

The Kingdom Progress tooltip has been captured in full twice — all six tiers originally, and again on 2026-09-04 after a patch added a seventh (Season of Expedition). In both captures the Nascent entry reads only that the kingdom has just been established with members still arriving. **No number appears anywhere in it.**

The widely-repeated "10 days" figure has no source we can find. And there's a direct counter-observation: a kingdom was checked at 8d 14:59 of history and was still Nascent — which is compatible with a 10-day rule but proves nothing, and no observation anywhere pins the boundary.

So any "your kingdom flips on day X" prediction is a guess wearing a number. If a site gives you a countdown to your next season, it is extrapolating from a figure with no provenance.

⚠️ We had this wrong internally too. Our own dataset carried "≤10 days, verified" for two weeks after the retraction was written, in a block that cited the retraction as its authority. That's corrected now — and it is exactly the failure mode to watch for on this topic everywhere else.

4. The rule that actually predicts things

Season transitions are chapter-gated, not calendar-gated. Two consequences you can use:

  1. Calendar widget dates can be display bugs. The event-header UTC time and chapter completion are truth. When they disagree with the calendar, believe them.
  2. Your season advances when the region advances, not when your kingdom does. The Prep → S1 gate fires when any kingdom in the region completes "The Last Golden Apple." You can be fully prepared and still be waiting on a neighbour.

That second point is the one that surprises people. Your timeline is not yours alone.

5. What to prepare, by where you are

You're inPrepare
Nascent / PrepPower build-up, CH and feature unlocks, Prep-exclusive events (they don't come back). There is no PvP Lost Kingdom yet — building toward one is fine, rushing troops for one is early
Approaching the S1 gateThe gate is region-wide and outside your control. Be ready early rather than timed — a "just in time" plan built on a predicted date is built on a guess (§3)
Season 2 onwardExpect matchups to re-roll. Intel about your S1 opponents does not carry forward
Season of ConquestAutarch/Testimony and Iconic equipment enter the picture; Autarch leaderboards start here. (Whether the new Season of Expedition carries Autarch is not yet observed — we flag it rather than guess)

The whale path

The chapter-gating rule is worth real money to you, because **the expensive mistake is timing a spend to a predicted date.** If you buy power to be ready for a season flip on a forecast day and the region gates late, you've paid early for buffs and troops that idle — and if it gates early, you're mid-purchase when the window opens.

Spend against observed chapter progress in your region, not against a countdown. And at Season of Conquest, note that Autarch leaderboards are the first place your spend converts into a ranked, visible outcome — that changes what "being ready" is worth.

The budget path

Chapter-gating is good news at low spend: you cannot be out-timed, only out-prepared. The gate waits for the region, so the extra weeks are free preparation you don't have to buy.

Two concrete moves. Do not skip Prep-exclusive events — they do not recur, and they're the cheapest power in the account's life. And **don't rush troop tiers for a war that hasn't unlocked**; there is no PvP Lost Kingdom in Prep, so troops built early just eat resources that buildings and tech would compound.

*Season names, the ladder, and the gating rule are read from in-game text. Where a number has no source — notably the length of Nascent — this guide says so rather than repeating the figure everyone else prints.*
